Garden to table

Greenacres School ran its ‘Garden to Table’ programme for the third year in 2019. The popular programme teaches children how to grow and cook their own produce.

During the year, two senior classes got to experience the programme over two terms. Each class was split into two groups, with one half of the term learning how to grow and harvest their own vegetables, and one half of the term learning how to cook.

For many of the children, it was the second time they had been able to take part in the programme. They now have a deeper understanding of what it means to grow and harvest

their own produce, and they are enjoying cooking a range of dishes at home.

2019 was an exciting year for the school, with two students entering the ‘Garden to Table Root to Tip’ cooking competition, and a group participating in the Garden to Table Trust’s ‘Dig for Victory’, an Anzac event led by Rt Hon Trevor Mallard which invited children to dig up parliament lawn!

Greenacres School has used the Hutt Mana Charitable Trust funding for the removal and installation of a new kitchen for purchasing kitchen items and compost.
